Thunderbird Mail Client 38.5.1 released. Ubuntu, Linux Mint.

Thunderbird 38.5.1  is a free, open-source, cross-platform email application for managing email and news feeds. It is a local (rather than a web-based) email application that is powerful yet easy-to-use.Thunderbird is easy to set up and customize – and it’s loaded with great features.

Thunderbird Changelog.


  • Use a SHA-256 signing certificate for Windows builds, to meet new signing requirements
  • Windows XP SP2 will not longer install Thunderbird (workaround: Install Thunderbird 38.5.0 then update)

To install Thunderbird just run the following commands via your systems Terminal.

X64 Bit Only.


wget ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/38.5.1/linux-x86_64/en-US/thunderbird-38.5.1.tar.bz2

tar -xjvf thunderbird*.tar.bz2

sudo rm -rf /opt/thunderbird*

sudo mv thunderbird /opt/thunderbird

sudo ln -sf /opt/thunderbird/thunderbird /usr/bin/thunderbird
